About Higher Ground...
A heartfelt thanks goes to my hometown. Without your
support, welcome, encouraging words, and overall blessing, the
Higher Ground would not be.
I rejoice with you that we have a coffeehouse to call
our own. A place that I pray will instill in all of us a sense of
wonder and hope that dreams do come true. Wakan Tanka is a God of
wonder and hope! Indeed, the name Higher Ground reflects the hope I
have that there is a higher, greater, better place than this. A
place where there will be no more crying, no more drinking, no more
sickness, no more fears, no more struggling to make ends meet, no
more fighting, and the promise I love the most...no more dying. All
of this will someday be true in God’s way and in his time. God’s
way is through his Son, Jesus. Accept the Son, and you will find
your way to God—to Wakan Tanka. It is a lifetime journey, marked
with disappointment, struggles and heartbreaks; however, it is a
journey of forgiveness, , peace in storms, faith in the unseen,
secret strength, joy in mourning, and the tenderness of calling God
“Father,” and in turn, being called His daughter or son. This is
the meaning of life. My constant cry and prayer for the reservation
is to know this truth.
I love my hometown. I absolutely enjoy walking /
hiking in Slim Buttes, the
place of my mother’s birth, Louella Brown
Eyes, and my grandparents Phillip and Lucy Brown Eyes. It is now
their resting place along with my dear Kayla Lou. It is my secret,
sacred place where I often sit and reflect on what was, but even
more, on what will be: a higher, greater, better place. Until then,
may my life reflect all the goodness of the Father, and honor the
legacy of my beloved mother, grandparents, and Kayla Lou…
I pray the same for each of you. You are precious to
God. You are precious to us at Higher Ground.
